A successful week in Phoenix gave Jamie Murray his first title of the season. Partnering Liverpudlian Neal Skupski, not his regular partner Bruno Soares, Murray won his first Challenger level title since 2013.

The duo came through their first-round match against Jason Jung and Mitchell Krueger in straight sets, but the rest of the tournament was less than straightforward for the duo.

Their road to the final saw them win their next two matches in a third set tiebreak.

The final saw Murray and Skupski take on American Austin Krajicek and New Zealander Artem Sitak. They shared the first two sets but the British duo 10-6 won in the final set tiebreak.

Murray’s victory in Phoenix came a week after disappointment in Indian Wells where he and Bruno Soares lost in the first round to Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov.

This wasn’t the only first round defeat for a Scot in Indian Wells with Cameron Norrie losing in straight sets to the Canadian youngster Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The two will now move onto the Miami Open where Norrie will play Australian’s Jordan Thompson in the first round while Murray and Soares, the second seeds in the draw, will play the American duo Mackenzie McDonald and Reilly Opelka.
