Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares were runners-up in Barcelona as they aimed to win their second title of the season.
The Scottish-Brazilian duo lost 6-4 7-6(4) to the Colombian team of Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal on Sunday.
The result avenges the final of the Sydney International in January where Murray and Soares beat Farah and Cabal in straight sets.
The week started off with a hard-fought win for Murray and Soares who beat Ivan Dodig and Edouard Roger-Vasselin winning 10-5 in a final set tiebreak.
Their quarter-final victory was far more straightforward with the duo beating Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in straight set, 6-3 6-3.
The semi-final victory against Raven Klaassen and Joe Salisbury was another close match. After losing the first set 6-4, Murray and Soares won the second set 6-3 to take it into a final set tiebreak which they won 11-9.
In the final, one break of serve was enough for the Colombian team to win the first set.
The second set was far closer as both teams traded breaks as it went into a tiebreak. Before the tiebreak, Murray and Soares had five set points but were unable to convert them.
The tiebreak was won by Farah and Cabal by 7 points to 4 to give them their 12th tour title as a team.
There was disappointment for Cameron Norrie who lost in the first round in Barcelona.
Norrie lost 6-2 6-2 to Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, who has had most of his success on clay.
Both Norrie and Murray and Soares’s next scheduled event in the Madrid Masters which starts on the 5th of May.

Jonny O’Mara and Luke Bambridge, who got to a final in Florida last week, went out at the quarter-final stage in Budapest.
In their first match, they beat the second seeds Santiago Gonzalez and Matwe Middelkoop 3-6 6-3 10-8.
They faced the German team of Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in the quarters, who beat them 3-6 6-4 10-6.
They move on to Estoril, where they play Dusan Lajovic and Nenad Zimonjic in the first round later today.
