The All-England Club will give Andy Murray every chance to compete in this year’s Wimbledon singles draw.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis indicated that two-time champion Murray would be given right up until before the tournament starts on the 1st of July.
Lewis said: “It’s entirely up to Andy. It’s in his gift what to do. But if he came forward with a strong case, I’m sure we’d work with him.”
The normal procedure is for wildcards to be announced after the All England Club convene for their pre-tournament meeting on June 18 but these comments shows that Murray will be given more time if he has indicated that he wishes to play.
There is no guarantee that Murray will be fit for Wimbledon as he is still recovering from major hip surgery which took place at the end of January, coming after his last match, a first-round loss to Roberto Bautista-Agut at the Australian Open.
Murray was cautious about his prospects as he was the official starter for London Marathon on Sunday.
Murray told the BBC: "I have been hitting the ball from a stationary position, but I haven't been doing any movement,"
"I don't feel any pressure to get playing again but if my body will allow, I will try."
